    Panasonic has developed a camcorder that will record birthdays, weddings and family events in 3D.
    Panasonic has developed a camcorder that will record birthdays, weddings and family events in 3D.

    A recent revival of interest in the technology, due to film blockbusters such as "Avatar," has created a domestic market, with consumers now expecting to have 3D in their homes.

    The new Panasonic camcorder and lens will cost around $2,000 when it is released in Japan in August.

    The camera, which looks similar to a normal digital camcorder, has a slightly bigger 3-D conversion lens that will be sold separately.

    Panasonic has referred to the camera as the first piece of equipment to open the "3D era."

    Panasonic already offers eight 3-D TV models, three 3-D recorders and four designs in 3-D glasses.
