US oil-spill crews have been trying to contain a spillage of more than 800,000 gallons of oil that poured into the Kalamazoo River in southern Michigan.

Battle Creek was also affected when a leak erupted from a pipeline that carries about 8 million gallons of oil per day from Indiana to Canada.

Crews have been working to stop the oil from destroying wildlife and flowing further into the Kalamazoo River which eventually empties into Lake Michigan.

Already Canada geese and fish have suffered from the spill and people from nearby Emmett township have been told to avoid breathing fumes from the spill.
